Russia and Moscow

Russia, also the Russian Federation, is a transcontinental country extending over much of northern Eurasia with a population of over140 million people.

It is a semi-presidential republic, comprising 83 federal subjects. The capital of Russia is Moscow.

Russia shares land borders with Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania (Kaliningrad Oblast), Poland (Kaliningrad Oblast), Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia and North Korea.

It is also close to the U.S. state of Alaska, Sweden, Denmark, Turkey and Japan across relatively small stretches of water. These waters are the Bering Strait, the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea and La PĂ©rouse Strait.

Tourism in Russia has been growing rapidly in the years following the collapse of the former Soviet Union in 1991. Most of the tourism is centered on the cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The two cities since these cities are the sites of some of the most famous attractions of Russia, such as the Red Square, St. Basil’s Cathedral, the Kremlin in Moscow, the Peter and Paul Cathedral, the State Hermitage Museum and the Church of the Savior on Blood in St. Petersburg.

But also the other cities and towns and the many scenic and natural landscapes are interesting spots to visit.
